MR. PANAMA
THE MAN BEHIND THE JOURNEY.
He did not choose a hat. He chose what that hat represented.
Before Panama Hatters, there was Marco: a man shaped by fashion, photography, image, and human relationships. For years he observed what makes a person recognisable — light, proportion, detail, and the way certain people enter a room without ever needing to announce themselves. Behind aesthetics, he was looking for something deeper: not simply something beautiful, but something authentic.
01 · THE BEGINNING
ONE DINNER IN MILAN.
It began over dinner in Milan. A conversation, a few words about Ecuador, a natural fibre, and a hat known throughout the world by the name of a country where it had never actually been born.
For most people, it would have remained a curiosity. For Marco, it became a question impossible to ignore: where does the authentic Panama truly begin? A few calls followed, then a decision. Within a month, Panama Hatters was born.
“What seemed like a moment of madness was perhaps the first true intuition of my life.”
02 · THE ORIGIN
THE ORIGIN.
To truly understand the Panama, Marco decided to go where it begins: Ecuador, among Toquilla fibre and artisans who have woven every hat entirely by hand for generations. There, time still follows the rhythm of nature and every gesture is passed on.
Nobody spoke of luxury. They spoke of patience, experience, and hands able to recognise a perfect fibre with a single touch. The value of an authentic Panama is not hidden in its appearance. It is kept in the time needed to make it.
“In Ecuador I understood that I was not buying hats. I was being entrusted with a culture.”
03 · ECUADOR / ITALY
TWO COUNTRIES. ONE VISION.
Ecuador safeguards the origin. Italy interprets its character. On one side: material, handwork, and tradition. On the other: proportion, colour, and contemporary elegance.
Panama Hatters was born from the meeting of these two worlds — without altering their identity, but bringing it into focus.
04 · THE PLACES
WHERE IT CAME TO LIFE.
The first collections did not enter shop windows. They entered places: hotels, resorts, golf clubs, yacht clubs, and destinations where elegance is lived naturally.
Over the years, Panama Hatters has been chosen by places and names including Villa d’Este, Belmond, Mandarin Oriental, Lamborghini, and Ferretti. Not through advertising, but through trust.
“I never wanted Panama Hatters simply to be sold. I wanted it to be discovered.”
05 · MR. PANAMA
WHY MR. PANAMA.
The name was not born from a strategy. It arrived naturally through artisans, clients, hotels, and the people Marco met. He no longer represented only a hat; he had become the face of a culture, a way of travelling, and a way of seeing the world.
That is how Mr. Panama was born. Not a character: a signature. For him, luxury is not about showing. It is about recognising where something comes from, understanding the time required to make it, and appreciating what still has a soul.
06 · THE JOURNEY
THE JOURNEY CONTINUES.
The question born one evening in Milan continues to take shape. Every collection is a new chapter, every artisan adds value, and everyone who chooses Panama Hatters carries part of this story.
Some creations do not follow fashion. They follow people.
A THOUGHT FROM MR. PANAMA
A HAT CAN COMPLETE AN OUTFIT. THE RIGHT ONE REVEALS A PERSON.
“I never wanted to create something for everyone. I wanted to preserve something authentic for those who still know how to recognise it.” Created in Ecuador. Interpreted through an Italian eye. Made to travel.
